Description:
The Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church has an exciting opportunity for a full-time General Maintenance Worker at our Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center located in Moravia, NY, near the beautiful city of Auburn, NY.
The Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center boasts over 200 wooded acres, a beautiful gorge, and over a mile of shoreline on Owasco Lake.
The General Maintenance Worker coordinates with staff and contractors to ensure that facilities and equipment are safe, clean, orderly, and functional.
The General Maintenance Worker is accountable to the Site Director.
Responsibilities:
1.
Administrative
a.
Day-to-day operation of buildings, grounds, and equipment b.
Plan and conduct work as neededc.
Determine repairs that require contract maintenance and coordinate with Site Director to receive and compare bidsd.
Provide assistance as needed to any contracted maintenance personnel
2.
General maintenance
a.
Lawn mowing and trimming
b.
Snow and ice removal and control
c.
Basic servicing of vehicles and equipment
d.
Coordinating contractors for or servicing of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical facilities
e.
Minor road maintenance and repair
f.
Washing of vehicles and equipment
g.
Operation of assigned equipment (*when qualified)
h.
Cutting of firewood
i.
Painting of buildings and equipment
j.
Minor repairs of equipment and facilities
3.
General custodial needs
a.
Cleaning of facilities (i.
e.
washing windows, dusting, resetting furniture, sanitizing rest rooms, etc.
)
b.
Cleaning of floors through appropriate techniques (i.
e.
sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, etc.
)
c.
Refuse collection
4.
General maintenance emergencies as needed
a.
Resolving plumbing issues (i.
e.
plugged toilets, etc.
)
b.
Cleaning up spills (i.
e.
vehicle fluid leaks, etc.
)
c.
Repairing damage to facilities (i.
e.
broken step, broken window, etc.
)
5.
Report on the general condition of buildings, grounds, and equipment
6.
Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested
7.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
Experience and Background:
At least 18 years old
Desire to work in the maintenance field
Ability to use basic hand tools
Possess basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
Possess basic computer skills
Possess valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Must have reliable transportation
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Other maintenance specific certifications preferred
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds for tasks such as unloading food, operating string trimmers, etc.
Able to reach overhead to change light bulbs, smoke detectors, etc.
Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing for long periods of time (30 minutes), bending, and stooping.
Theological Understandings: Ability to contribute positively as part of a worship community and to support the Discipline of The United Methodist Church as well as the policies of the UNY Conference.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn the structure of The United Methodist Church.
