Position Overview:
Reports to Manager of Laboratory Services
The Laboratory Assistant II performs pre-analytical specimen receipt, processing, identification verification and specimen storage.
The Lab Assistant II operates centrifuge and pneumatic tube systems, office equipment, enters information and tests orders in to the laboratory computer system.
The Lab Assistant II is responsible for ensuring correct patient identification on specimens and documentation and resolutions of pre-analytical specimen related issues.
The Lab Assistant II manages work unit supply ordering and inventory.
The Lab Assistant II provides training to others.
The Lab Assistant II performs phlebotomy on inpatient floors and supports the ED phlebotomy staff.
The Lab Assistant II may be required to draw outpatients on off-hours.
What you'll do:

Preferred Qualifications:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
External: Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program, or 1 year working phlebotomy experience.
Internal: Completion of phlebotomy career-ladder program.
Additional Qualifications: Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
Require ability to prioritize work manage and adjust changes in work volumes.
Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.
Physical Requirements - May require light lifting (up to 10 Lbs.
) and carrying supplies.
Repetitive use of hands (e.
g.
computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary.
