Job Title: Ward Clerk, 4 South
Reports To: Unit Manager
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will possess the emotional stability and organizational skills to deal with internal and external customers in a friendly, calm, non-judgmental manner.
Motivation to be a self-starter and ability to work independently when performing routine duties is required.
The Unit Clerk's primary function is providing clinical support by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team through successful completion of the core job responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities:
Clerical and administrative tasks of the unit including various printing, filing, and collating of patient and unit information to help assure the smooth administrative function of the unit.
Answer patient and patients' families queries regarding admission, registration and discharge protocols.
Answer telephone calls and direct the same to relevant staff, or relay messages.
Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to deliver quality patient care.
Replenish the stock of unit supplies by forwarding timely requisition forms.
Assist nursing staff with patient forms, admissions, transportation and discharges.
Notify nurses regarding written orders.
Adhere to general hospital safety policy and principles.
Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the unit in alignment with safety standards.
Report any issue of concern in the unit to the charge nurse directly.
Cross training and utilization as other clinical support staff (Nurse aide, Monitor Tech, Patient Sitter etc).
Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Prior experience as a unit secretary, customer service provider in health care or human service, and/or registrar/receptionist preferred.
Licensure: N/A
Certification: BLS, CPI preferred
Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.
g.
, use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.
g.
, to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
